About This Spot

Walking into SUSHI MORI on Front Street feels like stepping into a quiet corner of a lush, inviting garden. The subtle touches of nature in the décor—whispers of leaves and soft floral motifs—set a tone that’s calm yet warm, creating an intimate retreat from the lively streets of Santa Cruz. Here, conversations flow easily, and the gentle hum of chatter blends with the faint clatter of sushi plates and bowls, crafting an unhurried rhythm that encourages you to settle in and savor the moment.

The restaurant embraces a relaxed, neighborhood spot vibe where the pace is measured, and the service feels genuinely attentive without being intrusive. Families, couples, and friends find comfort in the cozy seating arrangements, where the atmosphere invites both quiet dinners and casual gatherings. The staff’s friendly presence hints at a family-run heart beneath the polished surface, adding a layer of approachable warmth that makes you feel like a welcome guest rather than just a diner.

The culinary journey here is thoughtfully balanced between tradition and everyday familiarity. Whether you come for a steaming bowl of fragrant ramen, where noodles and broth meld with fresh, flavorful ingredients, or a plate of golden vegetable tempura that crackles with just the right amount of crispness, each bite is an invitation into time-tested Japanese flavors. The sushi rolls, generously adorned with fresh fish and vibrant avocado, reflect a care for quality and an understanding of satisfying simplicity that resonates with both newcomers and seasoned sushi lovers.

What makes SUSHI MORI particularly inviting is its approachable spirit—offering honest portions and thoughtful variety without the pretense. The all-you-can-eat option, popular among locals who appreciate a leisurely dinner, adds an extra layer of charm by encouraging exploration and shared experience around the table. And for those visiting with little ones, the thoughtfully prepared kids’ teriyaki options offer a nod to family-friendly dining, emphasizing comfort and familiarity over anything flashy.

Ultimately, SUSHI MORI doesn’t rush you through a meal—it offers a moment to pause, enjoy flavors that echo with care, and bask in an environment that feels quietly cared for, much like a good friend inviting you home after a day full of discovery in Santa Cruz.

Give this spot a chance and a try! It was my first here, and it was wonderful! The rolls they offer are familiar and will satisfy your sushi craving definitely. The amount of fish on all the rolls were super generous. The service was wonderful; our server was so kind and sweet, and the atmosphere/ambience was so cozy! The name of the place is Sushi Mori, so it’s flower/forest/plant themed, which is so cute. Our favorite orders were: Firecracker, Popcorn Lobster, Mori, and Unagi (2 pieces). Please, give this place a chance!!!

Excellent sushi at a great price. My favorite restaurant in SC.

I've been here a few times now. The all you can eat sushi is a good deal for $36 or so. Nice selection of appetizers, soup, rolls and sushi. Seems family run but that's good. Worth visiting for sure! You won't want to look at sushi for weeks! The gyozo is so fresh, the baked oysters are killer, and the Crazy boy (and crazy girl) rolls, firecracker roll and Aloha rolls are yummy.

Great food at a reasonable price. Had the all you can eat option, ate comfortably and stayed the time we needed to. Rolls had a good amount of fish, avocado, etc. Service was good. The wait time overall was average for ayce, we ordered most of what we wanted the first round so hardly had to wait. We were offered the option for ginger and wasabi, great way to avoid waste since not everyone at the table wanted some.

AYCE option for $35. Good value if you like to eat a variety of sushi. I'm not a sushi expert or snob but it was all delicious, fresh and prepared quickly. Granted, it was not very busy when I was there but the staff was friendly and very attentive. I would definitely recommend and I will go back.
